Twin Scroll upgraded turbo SD360: from the rally a new technology!
The system developed is the most technologically advanced on the market today, in fact the concept of the doubling of flows in the turbine crankcase is recently discovered on petrol engines. By exploiting the pulsations of the exhaust gases, a remarkable efficiency of the hot group is obtained at low engine speeds and a remarkable permeability to the maximum revolutions with the engine under pressure. This technology is now used on the most famous rally cars.
SAITO supplies a steel manifold specifically designed to fit a turbo with Twin Scroll turbine casing (ie with two volutes for exhaust gases). The ducts of the cylinders 1 and 4 are connected to each other and separated from the ducts, also connected to each other, of the cylinders 3 and 2: in this way the gases produced by the cylinders 1 and 4 will enter a volute of the turbine while the cylinders 3 and 2 will be conveyed to the other. In addition to this innovation, the turbo is equipped with an Aluminized Titanium turbine impeller instead of the classic Inconel 713 or 738: this material has a considerable resistance and above all a weight of about 60% lower than the traditionally used steel. This allows to drastically reduce the response times during the transients and also allows a better balance of the rotor. The turbine crankcase is made of steel cast iron named Niresist D5, this material is capable of withstanding high exhaust gas temperatures before crumbling and leafing. The latter is equipped with two waste gate passages, one for each volute and the closing plate is of the single tilting type. Inside the central body is mounted a 360° thrust bearing shoulder typical of all Mitsubishi applications and capable of withstanding much higher thrust values than the classic 280° thrust bearings of the Garrett or KKK type.
The semi-kit is recommended only for expert workshops in high-level modifications. For its assembly it is indeed necessary to make the following changes:
– Variation of the air inlet connection in the compressor;
– Variation of the air outlet connection from the compressor;
– Variation of the oil delivery pipe to the turbo;
– Change of the oil return pipe from the turbo;
– Variation of the first gas discharge section (between turbo and exhaust pipe);
– Moving the radiator cooling fans upstream of the latter;
– Injection system remapping
With engine prepared you can reach 360 hp with a driving torque of over 70 Kgm!
