SI300 turbo kit for the legendary Ford sedan
Following the great experience gained in Garrett racing sector’s technical support in the years 1989-91 we decided to rejuvenate this project, still alive in the hearts of many.
Basically the Sierra Cosworth offers a robust and reliable mechanics with a sporty and safe driving but the original turbocharger has an outdated aerodynamics. The thrust bearing of the Garrett T3 is of the open type at 280° and in case of increased pressure of supercharging this will be the Achilles’ heel due to the high axial stresses. To achieve an excellent result both in terms of maximum power but above all a high response at low rpm Saito has choose a very powerful turbocharger of Mitsubishi TD04HL Family. The sizing of the impellers and the section of the turbine has been carried out based on the modern and sophisticated calculation systems adopted for the definition of correspondence between the motor/turbocharger adopted by OE market.
The result was exceptional: the SI300 kit allowed the turbocharged engine to be overheated by low revs, reaching a power of 300 bhp at 1.5 bar of boost.
The Mitsubishi turbine is equipped as standard with a 360 ° thrust bearing capable of homogeneously supporting high axial thrusts. Following our philosophy we will never intervene on the coreassy of the turbo in order not to lose, the original balance established by the producer (in our judgment this can not be restored with the normal balancing machines on the market). With this philosophy we have been able to achieve great results.
The SI300 comes along with all the necessary components for easy installation, nevertheless it will be necessary to reset the ECU. The selected turbo features a Niresist D5 turbine carter, a high carbon gray cast iron that is resistant to high exhaust gas temperatures without the risk of peeling or cracking. The turbo is supplied with a pre-set actuator at about 1.2 bar in direct contact with the compressor (Pierburg sensor must be bypassed).
