Description
The Mitsubishi TD04HL turbo has a very low moment of inertia when compared to that of a Garrett T3 and a TB28 while the air flow rate processed by the compressor is very similar to that of a T3 60 Trim. The 6cm2 turbine housing provides an excellent response to low engine revs while maintaining a good permeability at high rpm. The turbine adopts the same gas inlet flange as the original TB28 turbo. The oil seal system on the compressor side is more sophisticated than the original, thus avoiding the classic engine oil consumption that often affects the original application (especially when the turbo is operated at high speeds).
The achievable power is around 260/280 HP with superior component reliability thanks to the standard adoption of a thrust bearing at 360 ° with respect to the original turbo Garrett TB28. The turbine material is Niresist D5, known for its high strength.
The kit includes:
n. 1 Oversized turbocharger
n. 1 Gasket kit
A brief description of the fundamental concepts and of our philosophy on tuning. The Mitsubishi turbine, thanks to the sophistication of its aerodynamics and the continuous improvements made by the manufacturer, allows obtaining high air flows while maintaining an excellent level of response at low engine speeds. The operating pressures to which the turbine can be subjected are very high thanks to the standard use of a 360 ° thrust bush (competition adopts open thrust bearings open at 280 °). In our opinion it is important to know that the opening of a turbo, in order to modify its internal parts (replacement of the thrust bearing at 280 ° with one closed at 360 °), reduces its reliability in fact once the rotor has been disassembled the original balancing that will never be restored again despite the use of good quality equipment will be lost. Good balancing makes the product reliable especially in the case of turbines that operate at high pressures and therefore at high rpm (in the case of a TD04HL for Alfa Romeo GTV operating at 1.2 Bar approximately 175,000 rpm). For tuning applications The material of the turbine housing used by us is Niresist D5 capable of operating at high exhaust gas temperatures thanks to the high carbon content. The moment of inertia of the rotor is very low and much lower than the competition turbos.
